Jerkface Toru would like to battle!

"Okay, thanks for bringing him to us! Give him a few days, and he'll be good as new!"

Rin smiled slightly, and nodded her thanks. She was currently located in Titantro City's Pokemon Center. Crim, her newly caught Druddigon, handed a wounded Wurmple over to the local Nurse Joy.

"Nurse, do you know the person on this collar is?" Rin asked once an Audino took the Wurmple away to begin caring for it. She handed Crim's torn collar to the Nurse Joy. The pink-haired doctor held up the small name tag to her face, squinting while trying to figure out what it said. The collar was dirty and the words engraved on it were hard to read.

"I think I know this Druddigon's previous owner. A Coordinator by the name of Janet came by the other day, complaining about how one of her Pokemon wasn't graceful enough. She said she was thinking about releasing him. If that's true and your Druddigon was the Pokemon released, the forest is lucky that you caught him like that. A powerful predator like that could easily ruin the food chain!" Nurse Joy explained. She handed the collar back to Rin, who accepted it and gave her thanks.

Rin took a seat and pun her Cyndaquil Hino on her lap. Crim sat down beside the young trainer, his heavy weight causing the bench to creak under him. Rin studied the Pokemon Center carefully. In the back Chansey and Audio were scurrying about with medical equipment and medicine. All around people sat, stood, and talked, some anxious to get their Pokemon back, others idly eating a meal supplied by the center, and still others talking and grooming their Pokemon. A TV mounted on one of the walls had the news on, and dotted around the other walls were paintings and pictures of Pokemon, people, and landscapes. It was nice , and Rin decided to rest here for a while.

A while passed, and Rin grew thirsty. A little bit away there was a drinking fountain, and Rin got up to go get a drink of the cool water. She set Hino down and went off to the drinking fountain. She didn't realize Crim was coming with her.

As Rin casually walked to the fountain, she heard something knock over behind her. She turned around and saw that Crim had knocked into a person carrying food. This person was a boy about her age, with messy brown hair and a striped jacket. Soda was spilled over his front, and the food he carried on a plastic tray was either tipped over or on the floor. He looked really angry, and Rin ran over to apologize for what her Pokemon did.

"S-sorry..." Rin began, before she was cut off.

"That was your Druddigon?" he asked. Rin nodded. "Well then... KEEP TRACK OF YOUR STUPID POKEMON! I PAYED GOOD MONEY FOR THIS FOOD AND YOUR CLUMSY DRUDDIGON BASHES INTO ME! TRAIN 'EM A BIT BETTER, WILL YA'?" he yelled. The Pokemon Center grew much quieter, and all around heads turned to face the angry boy, who was too angry to notice. Rin, startled, took a couple steps back.

"I'm s-sorry," she repeated quietly, "Is there anything I c-can do to make it up?"

"HOW ABOUT GETTING THE HELL OUTTA HERE?!"

A hand rested on the boy's shoulder. Behind him was a pretty girl a bit older than him, with light brown hair and brown eyes. She was dressed up in fancy clothing and wore makeup. "Toru, calm down! You're embarrassing me!" she said. She grumbled something under her breath, but silenced the second she saw Crim. "Hey! What'd'ya think you're doing with MY Druddigon?!" she asked, her arms crossed at her chest.

"This isn't your Druddigon. If you owned him, the Pokeball wouldn't work," Rin said, her voice a mere whisper. Crim growled angrily at the girl, as if her didn't like nor trust her.

"Stupid girl... I was the one who previously owned that monster you have there," the girl replied rudely. "If you must know, I'm Janet." Janet rolled her eyes as if Rin should of known her name. "Toru, let's leave this trainer along, shall we?" she asked, her voice going from that of a snotty girl to a kind young lady without warning.

Rin clenched her fists out of her trestment by Janet, though said nothing. If Crim's original trainer was such a jerk, Rin was glad she was able to obtain one of her previously owned Pokemon.

Toru shook his head. "I'm not leaving 'till I get my revenge!" he said, pushing Janet away.

"Fine. How should we settle this then?" Janet asked, tapping a finger to her chin in thought. She suddenly stopped and grinned smugly. "How about... a battle?"

Toru returned Janet's grin. "Aw yeah! That sounds like an awesome idea! I'll crush this idiot girl in a matter of seconds!" he exclaimed, pounding his fist against his opposite hand's palm. "Ha! You don't stand a chance!" Rin seemed to shrink into her jacket. She stepped closer to Crim for support from the dragon.

"Well girl, do you except?" Janet asked. She leaned in close and brushed black hair away from Rin's ear. "I'll just say this: Toru's a new-ish trainer, so if he beats you, you're a weak trainer, and if you win, it was an easy victory," she whispered. Toru leaned in to try and eavesdrop on what Janet was saying, but the coordinator shoved the boy away before skipping over to the center's back door. Behind the door was a dirt battlefield, and Janet opened the door, waved Rin and Toru over, and then dashed out.

Toru looked at Rin, who stared back at him. Her eyes showed pain from the two trainers' words, but the rest of her didn't show a sign of being hurt. "Stop staring, will ya, and get on the battle field. I win and you buy me another meal, and if you win.... its only beginner's luck!" Rin held a finger up in reply, but Toru grabbed it and dragged Rin to the battlefield, even though she hadn't spoken a single word nor accepted the battle challenge.

Rin sulked, and the little bit of color in her pale skin was completely drained. She was dragged along by Toru to a standard dirt Pokemon battlefield. Janet stood in the middle, evilly grinning from ear to ear. She brushed her long hair out of her face. "Okaaaaay! Ready to kick some newbie butt, Toru? I'll be your referee, so don't you worry!" she said.

"But you're biased," Rin objected, though too quiet to be heard by Janet (though she might have chosen to ignore it). Toru pushed her to one side of the battlefield and dashed over to the other side. Janet looked at them both and then began to begin the battle.

"Okay, lets see. You both have 2 Pokemon, so its a 2 against 2 battle. Switching isn't allowed, and that's it! Send out your first Pokemon, please~!"

Rin was about to send out Hino, who had ended up following her, when she noticed Toru wasn't preparing any Pokemon. He waved her on, wanting the girl to hurry up and send out a Pokemon. The dark-haired trainer sighed and sent out Hino, knowing Toru would probably counter whatever she sent out.

Toru pounded his fist against his leg and cursed. Apparently he didn't have a good counter for the fire type. He proceeded to send out his Pokemon, an orange monkey with a fiery tail known as a Chimchar.

"Okkaaay, battle start! Toru gets the first move, of course!"
